چکیده

THE ACTIVITY OF REDUCED FERREDOXIN: CO(2) oxidoreductase in Clostridium pasteurianum was correlated with the accumulation of formate in the growth medium. The data indicate that the in vivo function of the enzyme is to mediate formate synthesis rather than its degradation.

Probing the role of electrostatic forces in the interaction of Clostridium pasteurianum ferredoxin with its redox partners.

The ability of several low-potential redox proteins to mediate electron transfer between Clostridium pasteurianum pyruvate-ferredoxin oxidoreductase and hydrogenase has been evaluated in a coupled enzymatic assay. The active electron mediators, whatever their structure, must have a reduction potential compatible with the two enzymes, but for proteins of similar potentials, a marked specificity ...

Inactivation of clostridial ferredoxin and pyruvate-ferredoxin oxidoreductase by sodium nitrite.

Clostridial ferredoxin and pyruvate-ferredoxin oxidoreductase activity was investigated after in vitro or in vivo treatment with sodium nitrite. In vitro treatment of commercially available Clostridium pasteurianum ferredoxin with sodium nitrite inhibited ferredoxin activity. Inhibition of ferredoxin activity increased with increasing levels of sodium nitrite. Ferredoxin was isolated from norma...

Energy Conservation Associated with Ethanol Formation from H2 and CO2 in Clostridium autoethanogenum Involving Electron Bifurcation.

UNLABELLED Most acetogens can reduce CO2 with H2 to acetic acid via the Wood-Ljungdahl pathway, in which the ATP required for formate activation is regenerated in the acetate kinase reaction. However, a few acetogens, such as Clostridium autoethanogenum, Clostridium ljungdahlii, and Clostridium ragsdalei, also form large amounts of ethanol from CO2 and H2. How these anaerobes with a growth pH o...

CO2-fixing one-carbon metabolism in a cellulose-degrading bacterium Clostridium thermocellum.

Clostridium thermocellum can ferment cellulosic biomass to formate and other end products, including CO2 This organism lacks formate dehydrogenase (Fdh), which catalyzes the reduction of CO2 to formate. However, feeding the bacterium 13C-bicarbonate and cellobiose followed by NMR analysis showed the production of 13C-formate in C. thermocellum culture, indicating the presence of an uncharacteri...

Hydrogenase of Coleman's Sulfate-reducing Bacterium.

Buller, C. S. (University of Kansas, Lawrence), and J. M. Akagi. Hydrogenase of Coleman's sulfate-reducing bacterium. J. Bacteriol. 88:440-443. 1964.-The hydrogenase of the Coleman organism was found to be associated with the particulate fraction of cell-free extracts. This enzyme catalyzed the oxidation of molecular hydrogen in the presence of various electron acceptors. It was also able to ev...
